Dr Nawaz Walji
Consultant Oncologist
Dr Nawaz Walji was appointed as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist in March 2010 and is an experienced specialist in the non-surgical treatment of breast and gynaecological cancers. He provides expert care for patients with both early-stage and advanced disease, offering personalised treatment plans tailored to each individual’s diagnosis, preferences, and goals.
His expertise encompasses a comprehensive range of cancer treatments, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted biological therapies, endocrine therapy, external beam radiotherapy, and brachytherapy. He has particular expertise in interstitial brachytherapy for the treatment of cervical cancer and is committed to ensuring that patients have access to the most effective, evidence-based therapies available.
He is the Clinical Lead for Radiotherapy at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust and is an active member of both the West Midlands Radiotherapy Expert Advisory Group and the West Midlands Brachytherapy Steering Committee. As a Principal Investigator for several clinical trials, Dr Walji is involved in evaluating new and emerging cancer treatments, enabling suitable patients to access innovative therapies while contributing to advances in cancer care.
Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Walji has a longstanding commitment to postgraduate medical education. He has previously served as Chair of the Specialist Training Committee and Training Programme Director for Clinical Oncology in the West Midlands and contributed to the development of the 2021 Clinical Oncology Curriculum as a member of the Royal College of Radiologists’ Specialty Training Board.
Above all, Dr Walji believes in providing compassionate, patient-centred care. He understands that a cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming and is dedicated to supporting patients throughout their treatment journey, ensuring they receive clear information, expert guidance, and care that is tailored to their individual needs.
Outside of medicine, Dr Walji enjoys playing badminton, cooking, and travelling, interests that help him maintain a healthy work–life balance.
